The rights of children: An achievement oft he 20th century

• 1923: The ONG “Save the Children” adopted a declaration of five points concerning the rights of children, known under the name of “Déclaration de Genève”.
• 1924: The League of Nations also adopted the declaration.
• 20th November 1959: The general assembly of the United Nations adopted the declaration of the rights of children. There are proclaimed ten fundamental principles concerning the well-being and protection of children. The child is seen as a person vested with all rights.
• 1979: Proclamation of the year 1979 as the “International Year of the Child” by the general assembly of the United States
• 20th November 1989: Adoption of the International Convention on the rights of children by the general assembly of the United Nations
• 20th December 1993: The Luxembourgish Parliament ratifies the foregoing convention.
• 25th Mai 2000: The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflicts is approved by the Act of the 25th April 2003.
• 25th Mai 2000: The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography is approved by the Act of the 16th July 2011.
