Access to Rights for Children and Young People

Practices, challenges and improvements: an afternoon of reflection

We are pleased to invite you to an afternoon of discussions on access to rights for children and young people, organised by OKAJU in partnership with UNICEF Luxembourg.

Join us on 24 October 2024 at the Europa Experience Centre
(17 Avenue John F. Kennedy, Luxembourg).

The event will begin at 1.45pm with a welcome for participants, followed by speeches by Mr Charel Schmit (Ombudsman fir Kanner a Jugendlecher) and Ms Elisabeth Margue (Minister of Justice). Isabel Wiseler-Lima MEP and Benoit Van Keirsbilck, member of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, will speak on the importance of youth-friendly justice.

A round table, moderated by Paul Demaret, will bring together various experts, including Odile Buchet, representatives of the Jugendparlament and the University of Luxembourg, Alexandra Huberty (Luxembourg District Court), and Nathalie Barthélémy (member of the Luxembourg Bar). The day will close with a speech by Anne Calteux, the European Commission’s representative in Luxembourg, followed by a closing drink and a tour of the Europa Experience centre.

This event will address access to justice for children, a key theme of General Comment No. 27 of the Committee on the Rights of the Child, which stresses the importance of appropriate and accessible mechanisms for all children.
